Here is What You Need to Know About SEO

Search engine optimisation, or SEO, is the process of improving the visibility of a website on search engines. Search engine ranking depends on how relevant and specific a page’s content is to any given keyword query. For websites to rank higher in Google SERP (Search Engine Result Page), they need well-written content that matches a user’s intent when entering keywords into Google.

The idea behind SEO is that by optimising your site with strategic keywords, you can increase your chances of appearing at the top of SERPS for those queries – meaning more visitors who are ready to buy from you!

Good SEO takes time

SEO is a long term strategy. Optimising your website for search engines doesn’t just happen overnight, and it’s not something you can do in an afternoon either. SEO takes time and patience, but if executed properly, it will move the needle in terms of rankings and traffic to your site.
We started our SEO journey by creating great content for our users and ensuring we were staying true to Keyword Research – researching relevant keywords related to your business or service. We then created a comprehensive keyword map based on our research before finding keywords that would be highly targeted to later turn into blog posts. Now let’s take a look at how our content is performing!

Why keywords are important for SEO

Keywords are essential for SEO as they provide a breadcrumb trail of what your post is about and help Google understand your content. Our keyword map allows us to label the type of keywords we want our blog posts to rank for and also shows us how competitive each keyword phrase is, which helps us determine how long it will take until we start typing for them.
The more targeted you can be with keyword choices in your content, the better chance of reaching your audience! Google looks at factors like relevance and popularity when rating pages, so it makes sense that if you use words that people actually search on (i.e. very specific), there’s a bigger chance of getting clicks from those searches – totally makes sense right?

Writing great, high-quality content

High-quality content matters! Google recommends that you keep your page as concise as possible and use the keyword phrase 2 to 5 times within the first 300 words of your post. We try to do this to ensure we are fulfilling what we set out to accomplish; ranking for the keywords we chose and converting visitors into leads and customers.
The blog posts we create will also be shared on social media like our Facebook page and Twitter profile. This means that people will see our content outside of Google Search results, giving them a chance to engage with us or explore other pages on our site (and all this extra exposure is totally free, by the way!)

Great content can lead to conversions

We’ve listed a few blog posts on our site that have helped us grow our Facebook page and Twitter account. When people see great content, they want to learn more about the business behind it, so they click on your website.
Having a well-optimised blog post is an essential factor when generating leads from blogging. Not only does this increase your SEO, but you also get more visitors who are ready to explore other areas of your website, which will then hopefully convert into sales or enquiries!
People might opt into your email list by clicking on one of the CTAs (calls-to-) you’ve placed within your blog post, e.g. “sign up to our newsletter”, so it’s vital to ensure you have all the right elements in place before publishing them to your site.

Make sure you’re getting value out of your content

Whether we like it or not, people nowadays are addicted to their phones and tablets. People use Google on the go, whether that means searching for cat videos or catching up on their favourite blogs. Because people are ‘Googling’ constantly, if your page doesn’t load quickly enough, you’ll get bounced from the SERPs! Ensuring this doesn’t happen is super important for SEO and general user experience (user UX for short). Trust us, people will not think twice about leaving your blog if it takes a second too long to load or isn’t optimised for mobile devices.

We use Google’s AMP page format on our blog so that visitors will have a better experience, and also, because of this, we have been able to increase our overall Google rankings and the click-through rate of each post! To implement AMP pages, you can install a plugin on WordPress or follow Google’s instructions. It might seem like a lot of work at first but trust us, having AMP pages is totally worth the effort!
